Christmas in Hawaii?

I just tried to find that song on the Internet... perhaps better that I didn't. However, I thought I should have a go at drawing something more Chrissie-like and all I seem to produce is flowers and chicks with short hair. Not good.

Roses

I saw this beautiful add and I thought to myself "I can do that" and I think I kind of did. I particularly liked brushing away with the roses but than I felt bad putting it on my blog as I had made such an obvious copy. The next day I saw a huuuge copy of the same picture, on the wall in a display home... so there you go, I don't feel bad anymore. The original was an add for Napoleon cosmetics and I can't find it on the web any longer.

Bad!

I'm a bad bad blogger! And I knew I would be once the novelty had worn off! Soon this might turn in to an exercise in self discipline rather than creativity and why not... that's a good purpose too!

Anyway, here's another picture. Ink on paper. I totally need some better brushes, must go shopping.

Family Portrait

I love family photographs to the degree that I could have one taken every year. And the more uncles, old grannies, dogs and cats you squeeze in, the merrier! Here we go again - I have to have a dog..... and a cat.

Never in a million years did I think I would ever e-v-e-r like shoulder pads again, but I do. It's like I've switched from that absinth-ish bob-look to a space inspired broad shouldered obsession. Interesting to see how long it will last?

T for turbans

I just felt the urge to say that I've got a thing for things and one of those things are turbans. A good turban must be the ultimate head piece and you must be rather old or eccentric to wear one. I'm neither, so no turban for me just yet.

Bobcat

I know I've been going on about dogs for a while but I'm really a cat person. More so than a dog person anyway. I just like the idea of a family dog but I'm secretly looking at the great chunky dog collars slightly more than at the actual dogs, imagining how the collar would go with the dog. Furthermore I'm not so into all that running around and teaching the dog things. But maybe that would grow on me? Ideally we should have one dog and one cat and they would be friends. The cat should be a male and I'll name him Bob. Of course.

Life essentials

Or should I say life changing vocabulary? In a recent number of a Fashion Magazine I finally learnt all I need to know about different variations of a bob. I went for a lob. So where to next? Long lob or bob?

Tried acrylic on paper this time but I think it's gouache I should have a go at. Acrylic is good though, quick and thick.

Good hair

Scanned three new pictures before. Turned out that one came up in black and white in stead of colour and it was a collage so not so good. The second one was ok but I realised I had to change it and the third disappeared mysteriously. So I'm posting an old scan of a pencil sketch. I like the hair on this one. And the glove, one should wear gloves more often.

Back to ink

I've rediscovered ink and here is what I need: my own room with a lockable door to keep little girls-fingers out of reach for black ink, brushes and paint.

... and autumn leaves I miss. Big ones like maple leaves. Hello it's July! I know. And I do feel a little bit pathetic thinking about autumn leaves but they are beautiful and autumn is my favourite time of the year.

Things that I miss...

I miss city biking on an old squeaky ladies bike with thick tires and a broad, think old sofa type, seat. And the big parcel rack at the back, how good wasn't that? Yes, the olden days again. When not yet everyone wore a bicycle helmet and when the parcel rack not necessarily carried a parcel but one of your friends.

A la recherche du temps perdu....

Please note the old-fashioned radio, coffee cup etc. Am I getting old or what? This picture is not a self-portrait but still feels a lot like me in another time. Like the early 90s, the olden days... At a second thought it is much a picture of my old single-girl-flat.

Avenue Bugeaud

I had a bit of a creative flow the other day and did two new pictures that will make it to the blog. It's just that my flow to scan them is not as..... flowing. Here is another picture though from last week.

Deep thoughts

Deep and uncomfortable, that's how I feel today. Just like this picture. Maybe I shouldn't be posting at all but my one-year old is asleep so I feel I have to dooooooo something. Started of with portraits but ended up explaining and complaining about them too much so it had to wait. But you know what, I'll be back.......

Collage attempt

Here is the same picture before and after me attempting to do a collage out of it. I do like the bird and I also really like the back ground. Then I couldn't make up my mind weather I should use colours or not. However the colour scale in my head wouldn't easily convert to paper so I left it black and white. Later on flicking through a fashion magazine I saw some fabric that instantly put my thoughts back to this picture and there I had the soloution for my colour problem. Experimenting with collage is new to me. It's fun and easy but also a bit overwhelming as you get so many new options for your picture once you start trying. I still think the one at the top need some more work. I just don't know what yet.

The first man

A man's face - how unusual. Why is it so much more fun to draw women? Saying that, I do have some dandyish men pictures in my head that might appear on paper soon.

I should print this face on a t-shirt and wear it. Hm, I might.

Catch-up

I did this one a while back and it's kind of related to the Cafe Lady. I think I had planned to actually go to Perth and have lunch or a coffee and preferably also see an exhibition, every Monday... Gee, it happend twice I think. Anyway...... Next new term, a lots of new Mondays!

I always say that I don't have a particular style but I obviously have a thing for women with a bob hairdo. And yes I like the 20s.

So frenchy too....... a complete francophile I am. What am I doing in Australia really?

On my mind....

When I start drawing, I hardly never know what type of image I'm going to create but I guess this one and the one below looks to be drawings of the same person. Maybe myself or another person doing what I like to do or thinking my thoughts. Drawing this I started off with the idea of the lonely lady in a cafe. Then I guess I must have started thinking about the food shopping I needed to do that day before picking up the kids at school and the shopping list came out. Because of that this is also one of my my favourite pictures. To me she is a lady who on her way to the shops sneaked of to a cafe, but as your typical mum she has got a constant to-do-list in the back of her head.

Gone shoppin'.... yes I wish! Guess walking with three dogs would be a fairly simular experience to walking with three small children though. When I did this drawing I just wanted to add one little dog into the picture but they were so much fun to draw so I ended up with three.

Being creative

Early this year I made a promise to myself (and my friend Linda) to give myself a good kick in the butt and start to be creative. Eventually this little lady emerged, I really enjoyed it and I love her for that. She is me when in comes to what my creative side looks like. She is "Algerika" I guess.
